Founded in 2025, Iriatai Excursions was born from a shared dream: to promote local, authentic, and sustainable tourism, dedicated to discovery and respect for the environment.
Our goal? To offer our visitors unforgettable moments aboard a boat with the utmost comfort, while highlighting the richness of our cultural and natural heritage. We aim to share with you our treasures and heritage, and to rediscover together the magic of our islands in a spirit of warmth, exchange, and humility.
Over the years, the desire to share the beauty of our islands gradually grew. What began as a simple wish has slowly turned into a true passion: to reveal the beauty and richness of our islands—their culture, heritage, and breathtaking landscapes.

'Iriātai
In Tahitian, Iriātai means ‘surface of the sea’ or ‘horizon.’ It is a powerful and symbolic image, evoking both the peaceful beauty of the ocean and the boundless expanse it opens before us. A name that perfectly reflects the spirit of our excursions: between sea, travel, and freedom.
Meet the captain: Heimataiki, aka Mata
Heimataiki, known simply as Mata, hails from the island of Taha’a and is the founder and captain of Iriatai Excursions.
The sea has been a part of his daily life since childhood—a world in which he grew up and learned through practice, like many Polynesians. It is on the water that he developed his skills, first through hands-on experience and then over several years of professional practice.
For more than 10 years, Mata has worked in the nautical and tourism sector. He honed his skills with various companies before embarking on his own venture. He wanted to create a business that reflects who he is: professional, friendly, deeply rooted in local culture, and genuinely attentive to the quality of service.
With the experience and training he has acquired, Mata now combines passion and professionalism, ensuring calm and safe outings at sea. What sets him apart? His natural calm, his dedication, and above all, the joy he takes in sharing his islands. He also practices spearfishing and offshore fishing, skills he, like many here, learned through hands-on experience.
Captain, manager, founder… Mata wears many hats, but above all, he remains close to people—attentive and always happy to share what he loves: the sea, the landscapes, and Polynesian culture.
