Sailing
Raiatea is a true paradise for sailing and water sports enthusiasts. Thanks to favorable wind conditions throughout the year and the natural protection provided by the lagoon, sailing here is both enjoyable and safe. Several events are organized for water sports lovers, such as the famous Tahiti Pearl Regatta, which attracts sailors from around the world every year.
A unique river in French Polynesia
Faaroa Bay, the second-largest bay in Polynesia, is home to the only navigable river in the entire archipelago. Sailing along this river, surrounded by lush vegetation, is a peaceful and immersive experience in the heart of nature. It leads to the botanical garden, a place rich in local and exotic plant species, perfect for exploration and relaxation.

A lagoon straddling two islands
One of the unique features of Raiatea and Tahaa is that they share the same vast, vividly colored lagoon. This lagoon, a true biodiversity gem, is full of exceptional spots for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or simply admiring the beauty of the underwater landscapes and the crystal-clear waters.
Whale season
From June to November, whales migrate through Polynesian waters, and it is often possible to see them from the lagoon between Raiatea and Tahaa. A magical encounter with these giants of the sea, sometimes even visible during a boat trip, is one of the highlights of the season.
The Cultural and Natural Treasures of Raiatea
Raiatea, the sacred island, is home to the Taputapuātea marae, a UNESCO World Heritage site considered the religious and cultural center of ancient Polynesia. It is a place full of history, not to be missed.
The island also offers several motu (islets) accessible by boat, including Motu Ofetaro, a public area located in the commune of Uturoa, perfect for a day of relaxation, a picnic, or a swim in an idyllic setting.
